Michael Harvey, founder and head trainer of The K9 Coach, brings over two decades of hands-on experience in canine behavior, obedience, and protection training. As a result, he has developed a reputation as one of Sarasota’s most trusted dog training professionals.
Mike’s journey with dogs started early—at just 3 years old—and from that point forward, his connection with animals only deepened. What began as a childhood bond eventually grew into a lifelong passion. By 2002, he had transformed that passion into a profession by attending the National K9 School in Columbus, Ohio, where he earned his Master Trainer certification after six weeks of intensive, hands-on training.
In addition, always eager to expand his knowledge, Mike continued to sharpen his skills by learning from some of the best in the business. For example, he trained with Robin MacFarlane at That’s My Dog in Wisconsin, and the following year, he worked with Fred Hassen of Sit Means Sit in Las Vegas.
As the dog training world evolved, Mike adapted right along with it. Consequently, he regularly attended workshops, seminars, and national conferences—including those hosted by the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP)—to remain ahead of the curve. Over the years, he also studied under industry legends like Ian Dunbar, the Monks of New Skete, and even Cesar Millan.
Because of this extensive training and experience, Mike has built a deep toolbox of techniques—and, more importantly, the insight to know which ones to use and when. Ultimately, whether it’s solving behavioral issues, building better communication, or restoring trust between dog and owner, Mike’s mission is clear: to help dogs and their humans live better lives together.
